SMTA certification is one of the electronics assembly industry’s most respected elements of process excellence.

2014 marks the 10th anniversary of the SMTA certification program, as well as the beginning of the recertification process. SMTA-certified engineers are required to renew their credentials every 10 years.

Three Indium Corporation experts and SMTA-certified instructors will assist recertification efforts: Dr. Ron Lasky, senior technologist; Iván Castellanos, technical services manager – Latin America; and David Hu, technical manager – China. These instructors have extensive experience supporting the SMTA’s local training programs in the USA, Central and South America, and Asia.

Dr. Lasky helped create the SMTA certification process over 10 years ago. He is also an Instructional Professor at Dartmouth College and a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt instructor. He has over 30 years of experience in the electronics and optoelectronic packaging and assembly industries.

Castellanos has over 15 years of experience in the electronics assembly and manufacturing industry. He earned his Six Sigma Green Belt from Dartmouth College’s Thayer School of Engineering. Castellanos is bilingual in Spanish and English, and teaches SMTA certification workshops in Latin America.

Hu has over 10 years of experience in the electronics assembly and manufacturing industry. He is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and has authored and presented technical papers at industry organizations, technical seminars, and customer sites. Hu is bilingual in Chinese and English, and provides training for future SMTA-certified engineers throughout Asia.
